Fireball and Julep Julia

Hello Lovelies!!  Happy 2013!  Today I have a super simple drink and a gorgeous Julep polish for you.  I know I’m trying to step up the nail art, but I did my New Year’s Mani which was kinda nail art-sih earlier this week.  On to the drank!!

To make a Fireball & Coke….can anyone guess???
You’ll Need:
Coke
Fireball Whiskey
Ice

Make It!
Cup.  Ice.  Fireball…glug glug…  Coke.

If you haven’t tried this stuff yet, you’re nuts!  Anyone I tell about it turns their nose up, but once they try it, they can’t get enough!

Oooh shiny!  I don’t know if I should call this duochrome, color shift, jelly, or what. Julia as Julep describes is a “purple orchid with golden micro-glitter metallic”.  But there’s so much more to it than that!  It has a sheer jelly orchid colored (I’ll agree with that) base that would be fully opaque with three coats.  In the bottle, the polish looks gold with a hint of purple, but on the nail the purple really shows through.  Depending on the angle and light it can look mostly purple, or mostly gold.  I did two coats, no undies.

Okay loves.  See you back on Swatch Tuesday!  (I’m seriously so happy to be going back to three posts a week! I don’t know how people who do it every day can keep up!  lol)

Birthday Dinner Nails

Last night we celebrated my Aunt's third anniversary of being 50 ;)  We went out to some super fancy-schmancy Italian restaurant and had to get all dressed up.  So of course I wanted my nails to match my dress!

I used one coat Essie Licorice for the black base, then I used one coat Essie Shine of the Times on all but the accent nail.  I matted everything with Hard Candy matte topcoat.

Then I stamped the accent nail with Bundle Monster stamp plate BM-206 in Essie Good as Gold.  I really wanted the gold to be shiny and stand out more than it did (I thought it would look less matte), but I was okay with the end result.

Two highlights of my year happened yesterday:
1: I was featured on Nail Art Ooh La La for the first time on IG for this mani ANNNND
2: I got to eat truffles (the mushrooms) for the first time in my life!  I had always seen them on the Food Network and was dying to try them.  They.  Were.  Amazeballz!!

Now.  Here are some pictures of all the dessert and wine we had.  I was bummed I couldn't take pics of the meal.  I felt awkward having my phone out, so I waited until everyone else did lol

I couldn't tell you what all this is, but my favorite was the one on the bottom left corner of the big plate.
It was some chocolate mousse with creme brulee filling and candied kumquats
whaaaat?? lol
And here is our party:  (clockwise from center) Aunt Sue, me, my mom, my daddy, my Aunt's friends Leo, Marie and Scott.

Blue Lemonade and Essie “Armed and Ready”

Hellooooo!  How was everyone’s week?  Glad it’s Friday.  Have I got a yummy (and pretty) drink for you this weekend!  Also, I can tell this Essie is going to be a great Fall color.

You’ll Need:
Vodka
Blue Curacao (I use Mr. Stacks from Total Wine – on sale for $6.99 for 750mL!  That's also where I got my Melon Liqueur & Peach Schnapps for the same price. Had to get stocked up!)
Lemonade (if you haven’t tried the Simply Lemonade yet, I totally recommend it)
Ice

Make it!
Handful of ice in the cup, two parts vodka to one part curacao, fill the rest with lemonade.  IT’S SO PRETTYYYYY!  And tasty!

As everyone knows by now, I am obsessed with Essie.  This color adds to my love for the brand.  It’s a dark woodsy olive-ish green with slight gold/bronze/copper shimmer.  Very military-esque.  Lahhh-uhvvvv!  I debated with myself for a while before I actually bought it, but boy I’m glad I finally did.   The first coat was pretty streaky, but by the second coat it looked great.  No streaks or bald spots anywhere.

While I was picking up my giveaway polishes and goodies, I broke down and bought Essie’s Good as Gold too.  I don’t know why I did, because I think gold nails are tacky, but I guess I can use it for stamping and stuff – or for a little accent like I did here!  I was going to paint little red or neon pink hearts over Armed and Ready, but I decided the color was too dark and the red wouldn’t show very well.  Also, pink would have looked weird over it in my opinion.  So, ding ding ding – gold was the winner.

I used my dotting tool to make two dots (the top of the heart) and then just connected them with a ‘v’ using the dotting tool as well.  I thought the polish was dry enough after like ten minutes, but of course it wasn’t.  So the heart looks a little globby and lumpy, but ehh its cute anyways.

Bear with me for the next couple weeks while I grow out my nails.  I have kept my nails short for a long time and I finally want to grow them out a bit.  I’m trying to file them in to a square, but the look semi-retarded this week (and probably will for next week too).  I actually broke one in the middle of the week and had to laugh at myself for saying - out loud - AHH I BROKE A NAIL!  lol
